A COMMUNITY CELEBRATION OF AFRICAN DIASPORA
ART + CULTURE
Kwanzaa Fest returns to Elmina, Ghana on December 27th, offering a one-of-a-kind cultural experience that celebrates the global African Diaspora through art, music, food, and storytelling. Produced by Akan Collective, the immersive festival honors the principles of Kwanzaa while spotlighting the creativity, resilience, and cultural continuity of African and diasporic communities.
Held from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Ahomka FM Courtyard, No. 1 Avenue, Iture – Elmina, Kwanzaa Fest has been officially recognized by the Ghana Tourism Authority as a "December in GH" event. This distinction positions the festival as a key cultural destination during Ghana's peak travel season, attracting both local and international audiences while offering sponsors meaningful alignment with heritage-driven programming and community impact.
"This marks our fifth year celebrating Kwanzaa in Elmina, and the second official year of Kwanzaa Fest, a vibrant bridge between African and African American culture," said Raphael Amissah of Akan Collective. "Held on Kujichagulia, the second day of Kwanzaa dedicated to self-determination, the festival honors our shared heritage while empowering creative expression and cultural reconnection. Elmina, home to the oldest slave castle in West Africa and a thriving hub for African American repatriates, is a profoundly symbolic backdrop for this gathering of art, music, memory, and community."
