Management personnel of 20 NGOs in Ghana are attending a three-day workshop on skills and capacity building to appropriately fund and execute their operations.
It is being organised by United Way Ghana (UWG), a non-profit organisation that seeks to build community capacity for sustainable development in health, education and income generation through the collaborative efforts of stakeholders.
The UWG in collaboration with the management of Proctor and Gamble Alumni Network, is organising the workshop designed to strengthen skills of the NGOs in strategic planning, effective proposal writing, fund-raising, monitoring and evaluation.
Ms Karen Shormeh Sai, Executive Director of UWG, addressing the opening session in Accra on Wednesday, said the workshop would provide an excellent learning opportunity for participating NGOs to improve their skills for strengthening their organisation's capacity to achieve greater impact at the community level.
Mr Jeleel Odoom, Programme and Development Officer of UWG, underscored the importance of NGOs in the country as the first line in addressing conditions of people in communities.
"NGOs by the virtue of their activities often are critical in replacing misery with smiles in many poverty-stricken and almost forgotten groups of rural dwellers," he added.
Mr Odoom said the workshop was expected to help participants equip themselves with theoretical and practical understanding of how to develop their organisation's own road map to ensure they fit into the communities where they operate.
