Mr Livingstone Agyeman, youth member of the Evangelical Presbyterian Bethel Church, on Sunday called on parents to supervise their wards to help curb the ascending rate of social vices which had engulfed the society.
�Parents serve as pathway in directing the child to do the right thing hence it is the responsibility of parents and guardians to play a counseling role in shaping the educational aspirations of their children and wards to prevent waywardness,� he said.
Mr Agyeman made the call in a sermon to climax the 15th Anniversary of the Accra Newtown Evangelical Presbyterian Students� Union (EPSU) under the theme: �Fighting Social Vices; The Role of the Christian Youth�.
�The Bible says all things are permissible but not all things are beneficial,� he said and admonished parents to live an exemplary life for
their wards to emulate.
He said the influx of technology with reference to the internet had influenced many youth to spend their productive hours in the caf� browsing or perpetrating fraud at the expense of their studies.
Mr Agyeman urged the youth to be well focused and work towards their aspirations instead of having the allusion of �getting rich quick�.
He called on all and sundry to fight those social vices by establishing educational facilities and sporting events for the youth and monitor them for a better life.
Mr Agyeman advocated for the establishment of a counseling centre for easy accessibility to all youth who needed assistance to help build their spiritual life.
Mr Israel K. Agblevor, President of EPSU, said as part of the anniversary, the union embarked on health walk through some selected streets in the vicinity of the church as a fitness exercise, and also to evangelize and raise awareness about certain social issues, such as drug abuse and cyber fraud.
He said the National Medical Outreach Team of the union offered medical advice on health risks and diseases to members of the community, while screening them for malaria, blood pressure and other basic health related issues.
Mr Agblevor said; �As youth of the church we want to take up the challenge by going out into the society to contribute towards putting an end to menaces which retard the progress of the Ghanaian youth such as cyber fraud, indecent dressing and others like it�.
