Madam Juliet Minnah, Proprietress of Stemapet Cakes and Floral Institute has appealed to the government to support vocational institutions.
She observed that vocational training had the potential to reduce the rate of unemployment in the country as beneficiaries often became self-employed.
Madam Minnah made the appeal on Saturday during the third graduation of the Institute at Nyamekye in Accra.
Fourteen ladies, who undertook courses in Cake Design, Sugar Craft and Floral Decoration for six to one year duration, graduated and were presented with certificates.
Madam Minnah said the sector abounded with a lot of challenges including lack of support schemes for students to lessen their financial burden.
She said it also continued to face stigmatization as a last resort for academically unsound students.
She however called on members of the public who wanted to acquire some skills for a meaningful living to enrol to safeguard their future.
Mr Owusu Asiamah, Chief Inspector of Schools of the Greater Accra Education Office, who chaired the event, urged graduands to put the skills acquired into practice to enable them to make income for a living.
Mr Asiamah said this would also help reduce unemployment in the country.
He congratulated the graduands and urged them to be ambassadors of the Institute.
