Chief of Staff at the Office of the Vice President, Alex Segbefia, has announced that the government will allocate $2 billion annually over the next five years to accelerate infrastructural development across Ghana under the Big Push Agenda.

Speaking as Special Guest of Honour at the 2025 Agotime Kente Festival in the Volta Region on Sunday, August 17, Mr. Segbefia said the initiative is designed to enhance productivity and drive growth in critical sectors, including education, transportation, and healthcare.

“We will ensure that infrastructure is capable of catering to our industries in a sustainable manner. Tourists, domestic or foreign, are more likely to visit a place when they know they can move around safely. That is just one benefit of the president’s Big Push Agenda,” he stated.

Mr. Segbefia added that the plan would channel resources into schools, hospitals, and other essential facilities, describing it as a “large-scale, ambitious development drive” to support national progress.

On local concerns, he assured residents of Agotime of the government’s commitment to resolving the enclave’s longstanding water supply challenges. He revealed that, in collaboration with the Community Water and Sanitation Agency, efforts are underway to extend the Adidome Water Project to the area.

“The challenges you raised are already part of the government’s development agenda. We acknowledge that things are far from perfect, but we will not leave your concerns unanswered. Work is ongoing to connect Agotime to the Adidome Water Project,” he said.

Mr. Segbefia also highlighted the recent inauguration of a new board for the Ho Teaching Hospital, which he described as a strategic step toward modernising healthcare delivery and positioning Ghana as a hub for medical tourism.
