Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to grassroots sports development after witnessing the vibrant energy and youthful exuberance on display at the inaugural 2025 Yingor Cup, held last weekend in Dabala, South Tongu District of the Volta Region.

The two-day football tournament, initiated by the Member of Parliament for South Tongu, Maxwell Kwame Lukutor, aimed to inspire and identify local talent. It brought together teams and enthusiastic fans in a powerful celebration of community spirit and emerging athletic potential.

The tournament’s name, "Yingor", meaning "moving forward" in the local Ewe language, aptly captures the forward-looking vision of the initiative.

Attended by a host of dignitaries including the MP himself and Deputy Chief of Staff at the Presidency in charge ot Operations, Stan Dogbe, the competition climaxed with the hosts Yingor FC defeating Cule FC 8–7 on penalties to lift the trophy and become the maiden champions of a planned annual competition.

In his closing remarks, the Sports Minister who presented the trophy to the winners, reiterated the Ministry's commitment and focus on grassroots talent identification and community engagement as part of its broader sports reset agenda.

He emphasized that competitions at the district level are vital to building a robust national talent pipeline and assured organisers of the Ministry’s continuous support through equipment provision, financial backing, and technical assistance.

He reaffirmed the Ministry’s dedication to recognising and uplifting young athletes and local clubs across the country, citing the success of the maiden Yingor Cup 2025 as an exhibition of the power of collaborations in advancing sports development at all levels.

“Grassroots football is the heartbeat of our national sports ecosystem. By supporting community tournaments like the Yingor Cup, we are investing in the future of Ghanaian sports,” Minister Kofi Adams stated.
